Some of you already know that I have breast cancer, it is grade 2 and has been caught early so it is treatable :-)
The prognosis is good for a full recovery but I will be having surgery, chemotherapy, radiotherapy and then hormone treatment for 5 years, the exact treatment plan / start date will be decided very soon & I will not be able to take my classes for a few weeks.

Thursday 9th September 2014
Appointment went well today with plastic surgeon, full mastectomy & reconstruction on Monday 15th of September, followed by chemotherapy & then radiotherapy. Chest X-ray done today & blood tests, back again tomorrow for pre-med assessment xx

Sunday 14th September 2014
Starting to get nervous now but hopefully by this time tomorrow the surgery will nearly be all over xxx

For family and friends - mummykins is out of surgery and in recovery. One thing for sure she'll be happy about is getting plenty of sleep for once.

Wednesday 17th September 2014
They have now removed the catheter and the drip, drains still in and still on oxygen, has been out of bed today but still in a bit of pain and very tired, she's not happy that I'm not going tomorrow but she is having other visitors afternoon & evening so thought it a good opportunity to have a break, it's still only 48 hours since she left theatre so recovery is good, still a way to go yet but signs are positive, if anyone's curious about the full extent of the surgery there is some good info on Macmillan website, Skin sparing mastectomy followed by Lattissimus Dorsi flap reconstruction.

Monday 6th October 2014                                                                                                                                                Hi all, firstly my sincere apologies to people who have sent me messages that I haven't responded to, I've been wanting to tell you all but I wanted to wait until I received the copy of letter sent to my GPs.

I have now been given the full results of my histopathology which confirms that there were 2 foci of tumour, the main tumour was 15mm, grade 2 invasive carcinoma with surrounding high-grade ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS), early signs of breast cancer. There was a separate 20mm focus which was entirely high-grade DCIS & both have been excised completely on having a full left breast mastectomy.
I am very pleased & relieved to tell you of the 3 lymph nodes taken (during my surgery) none were involved with tumour cells.
As you can probably gather this has been a massive relief to me & my family & yet again, a very emotional time, but this time with tears of happiness that the cancer had not spread.
Now not some goodish news,
I am on another course of antibiotics (which are not agreeing with me in one way or another) as a precaution, this is due to a slight redness & warmness on the medial aspect of my reconstructed breast, but otherwise Mr Mirza (Breast Consultant), has said the rest of the area seems to be healing nicely.
There is a very slight buildup of fluid again on my back (after already having a fair bit of fluid drained off on Tuesday), but was not enough to worry about & will be drained at tomorrow's follow up appointment with Mr Irwin (plastic surgeon) if necessary.
My next appointment is then on Friday to see the oncologist to discuss further adjuvant treatment.
I'm still feeling sore / uncomfortable from the surgery, but it's all worth the pain to kiss goodbye to the cancer !
Luv to all,Maria xxxx

Tuesday 7th October 2014
All went well today, no more antibiotics which equals no more upset tummy & still just a small amount of fluid on my back, so no need to drain
Clinic appointment made again for next Tuesday morning & by the sounds of things, I'll be having clinic appointments every Tuesday for a few weeks for them to keep an eye on my reconstructed breast, side & back.
Still feeling very numb ( breast, side & back) & sore, been told I will do so for a good few weeks / months, but otherwise they are very pleased with how I am doing.
I'll update again after my appointment on Friday with the Oncologist,
Luv to all, Maria xx

Friday 17th October 2014

Hi all, finally got home from the Oncologist appointment today at about quarter past one, but all very good news to tell, so it was worth it !

I am very pleased to tell you all that I don't need to have any Chemotherapy / Herceptin or radiotherapy my unwanted lodger has gone & thank God it had not spread to my lymph nodes, therefore none of the above treatments needed
I do have to have 2 forms of hormone therapy tho, Tamoxifen & Goserelin (Zoladex) & they started me on these treatments today, hence today's long appointment.
I also wanted to say, many thanks again for all your kind wishes, cards, flowers, plants, gifts, even the weird one, but I'm not gonna go into that, (some of you already know about it / them lol) & not forgetting to thank you for the much appreciated support you have given me during the last couple of months, I truly do have some fantastic friends out there & of course not forgetting my amazing husband & family that have helped me get through this too
I just need to take time / let my body take time now to recover from the surgery & to keep on taking the tablets etc....
luv & hugs to you all, Maria xxxx
